about
Film director
Hey there! I’m Alfonso Algara, a film director and documentary producer with a perspective shaped by my background as a professional musician and my crazy personal journey. I've been fortunate to live the vibrant culture of Guatemala, my hometown, the warmth of Honduras, the rich traditions of Mexico, and the diversity of the U.S. I carry the essence of these cultures with me wherever I go. A wonderful mix of experiences that enriches my life and informs my storytelling.
By the way, I’m proud to share that my recent film, Las Amazonas de Yaxunah, created for ESPN, received major international recognition. The documentary was nominated for a Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Long Documentary, won the Imagen Award, and was honored in Monaco with the Sportel Award. In addition, it received a NAMIC Award and a Red Nation Award, and was featured at respected festivals including the Morelia Film Festival, LA International Film Festival (LALIFF), and the New York Latino Film Festival (NYLIFF).
My focus remains on developing meaningful, culturally relevant stories that resonate across audiences, and I look forward to continuing that work with future projects.
